Ad-Spend Attribution Calculator

How to Use the Ad-Spend Attribution Calculator

  1. Enter your ad-sets (or ads). Enter each one at a time and click “add” to add it into the calculator
  2. Enter the total sales
  3. Enter the sales and ad-spend per ad-set

Then everything will be calculated for you.

I take my total sales and tracked sales from Shopify, and get ad-spend from Facebook ads manager. I do not take tracked sales from Facebook ads manager, as that is often wrong!

How This Works

CPS: This is your “cost per sale” which is a metric to see if your ads are profitable or not. This is a ‘hard’ number: We know it for a fact.

CPS-even: This is calculated by taking your total missing sales, dividing them by the number of ad-sets, and adding that to the sales of each ad-sets, and dividing ad-spend by that number.

CPS-weighted: This weights the missing sales. It calculates the percentage of tracked sales that make up a particular ad-sets, then multiplies the missing orders by that percentage, adding it to the orders for that ad-sets; and then dividing ad-spend by that number. The idea behind this calculation is that if one ad is particularly good, then chances are that the greater proportion un-attributed sales are going to be attributed to this ad.

What Are The Limitations?

This does have some limitations. When it comes down to it, we just do not know how the missing sales are distributed between the ad-sets.

All the missing sales could be attributed to a single ad-set. Or between two. You do not know.

As such, the results from this calculator are not going to be 100% accurate. They are just meant to be a guide.

If you have problems with missing attribution, this really does need to be fixed.
